Welcome to the 2019 #8weeksofsummer blog challenge! All educators are welcome to participate and reflect on their practice this #8weeksofsummer – a break for reflection and connection.
WIth enough perspective for last school year and some space to think through your past preformance, you are likely to begin mentally planning for next school year.
Consider coming up with a Big Hairy Audacious Goal for next year starting this week. What goal is so powerful that you are compelled to move toward, yet respectful of its immensity?
Start by reviewing the BHAG (“Bee-HAG”) concept from Built to Last by Jim Collins.
The Prompt:
Big Hairy Audacious Goal
What is your BHAG for next school year?
The Rules:
Have a Blog: You may blog on a traditional blog or use Facebook; any platform with an independent URL for each post.
Write & Include: (1) This at the start of your post: “This post is week 5 of 8 in the 8 Weeks of Summer Blog Challenge for educators.” and kindly link that sentence to http://HotLunchTray.com.
And (2) please use the hashtag #8weeksofsummer in social media shares of the post.
Comment on my Prompt: Post a link to your blog in the comments of each of the 8 blog prompts in a timely fashion (We are on vacation, and you may not even know which day it is, so let’s say within 3 weeks of the post).
This 2019 #8weeksofsummer blog challenge runs June 9 – July 28, 2019, and is for any educator. The challenge prompts educators with the opportunity of reflection. Each prompt asks them to blog about their reaction, thoughts, experiences with some facet of their professional practice.
Check HotLunchTray.com June 9th and every Sunday until July 28th for prompts.
Need to catch up?
Successful completion of all 8 weeks commenting/linking back/sharing via social media will result in one entry into the drawing for $100 USD Amazon Gift card one week after July 29th.

I don’t think I have a BHAG, but I have a lot of related small goals. I need to figure out how to make it into a BHAG.
Maybe someone can help me articulate it? Thanks! This was a great reflection, that I will continue to update. http://mrsdkrebs.edublogs.org/2019/07/08/bhag-my-big-hairy-audacious-goal/

I definitely agree with your perspective on this prompt. I’m more about setting one small, attainable goal for improvement after another. I think if year 1 me looked at year 9 me, the difference would seem big, hairy, and audacious, but I got here a little at a time. Thanks for writing this!

So. I have some reading to do tomorrow. These submissions sound great.

Usually I try to focus on 3 small, attainable goals. But I figured out one overarching goal when I thought about what I WISH. https://www.shutthedoorandteach.com/2019/07/lofty-goal-setting-for-teachers-making.html

Here’s my post for this prompt! http://www.kristinteaches.com/?p=425
I kind of took this prompt in a different direction and talked about some personal goals rather than a BHAG for the school year.
