The past year was a year of exceptionalities. We all needed to do different things to survive all the constantly changing demands of education. Let’s examine what your learner needed this past year. Welcome to Week 3 of the #8weeksofsummer Blog Challenge 2021.
Our learners had a myriad of stressors that typically do not intrude on learning. The coming school year will undoubtedly launch many new social-emotional learning (SEL) products and programs, but the original and unfunded SEL program for learners was their teacher. What did your learners in particular need from you this year? What were you able to provide and what was out of your reach?
Share the idea of blogging with your colleagues as a way to process the full year of multiple formats. Take the ideas of the friends in this challenge and hopefully build a future teaching repertoire prepared for multiple formats!
The Prompt:
Describe new or additional supports your learners needed this year.
The Rules:
Have a Blog: You may blog on a traditional blog, podcast, or use Facebook; any platform with an independent URL for each post.
Write & Include:(1) This at the start of your post: “This post is week 3 of 8 in the #8WeeksofSummer Blog Challenge for educators.” and please link that sentence to https://www.hotlunchtray.com/week-3-8weeksofsummer-blog-challenge-2021.
And (2) please use the hashtag #8weeksofsummer in social media shares of the post.
Comment on my Prompt: Post a link to your blog in the comments of each of HLT’s 8 blog prompts in a timely fashion (We are on vacation, and you may not even know which day it is, so let’s say within a couple weeks of posts 1-7).

Robbie,
It was a case of doing as we say not as we do sometimes. We often forgot we would have to repeat ourselves to anyone other than students – but at least we learned quickly! Thank you for this post!

I enjoyed reflecting on what my learners (both staff and students) needed during this past school year. As I started out writing, I wasn’t sure where it was heading exactly but it became very clear to me that engagement was the word of the year. Please check out my blog post to see how I boosted engagement for my students and modeled for my staff how to boost engagement through technology integration. https://impactfulintegrationwithamy.blogspot.com/2021/06/building-engagement-during-pandemic.html

Amy,
What an interesting school configuration your students thrive in. I imagine the smaller student number helps you and your students connect. All to the important end of recreating recreational readers!

This morning we had a situation where I live in Wakefield, Massachusetts when the police had to track down 9 heavily armed men who fled into the woods. Everything was put on hold until the men were captured!
Happy 4th of July everyone!
